Together with the well-known human rights activist and refugee helper Anni Lanz and other organisations, StrickWärme took part in a solidarity action in front of the Bundesasylzentrum Atlas in Allschwil on 19.12. The activists wanted to draw attention to the very difficult living conditions in the ORS-led refugee centre. This was also possible thanks to the reporting of several media (e.g. the Basellandschaftliche Zeitung and TeleBasel).
We celebrated Christmas early with the residents and brought food and other gifts. StrickWärme contributed hats and knitted dolls for the children who have to live in this desolate place. The wooden house is located in the middle of the modern industrial area directly on the French border. Since the BAZ Allschwil is a "Bundesasylzentrum ohne Verfahrensfunktion (mit Warte- und Ausreisefunktion)", it is likely that all persons who are accommodated there will have to leave the country again. Although they should be sufficiently informed about this after the asylum procedure, we have met several people who are still living from day to day with hope.
