Greece, February 2019
In a refugee camp in Serres, Greece, live hundreds of Yazidi people who have fled the terror of the IS. As Amnesty International and others reported, the IS deliberately tried to destroy the Christian minority of Yazidis. Thousands of murders, enslavement and torture, but also the destruction of the basis of life - cultivated land, wells and irrigation systems - have pushed the so-called "Islamic state" far forward.
Lifting Hands International operates a knitting project in the purely Yazidi warehouse in Serres. The often traumatised women make beautiful products. They also report that the project offers them a place where they feel safe.
